Duration of cookies

session cookies, which are stored permanently on the user’s computer and are deleted when the browser is closed, are strictly limited to transmitting the session identifiers necessary to allow the safe and efficient browsing of the website, avoiding the use of other IT techniques that are potentially prejudicial to the confidentiality of users’ browsing;

Type of cookies

Nature of cookies

Regarding the nature of cookies, there are different types:

– Technical cookies: are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the service provider of the IT company specifically requested by the subscriber or user to provide this service“ (see, art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Code).

They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the website’s owner or operator. They can be divided into:

browsing or session cookies, which guarantee normal browsing and use of the website (enabling, e.g., making a purchase or authenticating oneself for access to restricted areas); they are in fact necessary for proper operation of the website;
analytics cookies, similar to technical cookies when used directly by the website operator to collect information, in aggregate form, about the number of users and how they visit the website in order to improve the performance of the website;
functionality cookies, which allow users to browse the website based on the selected criteria (e.g. language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided to them. – Profiling cookies: are designed to create the user’s profiles and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the user browsing the internet. The Data Subject’s consent is required for the use of profiling cookies. In the case of third party cookies, the website has no direct control over individual cookies and cannot control them (it cannot directly install or delete them).
